Three announcements this week point at the same problem from different angles: how do you let an AI agent act on your behalf without it becoming you? Biometric Update's July 27 report ties them together into a stack. 1Password's new integration with Anthropic's Claude uses what it calls zero-exposure architecture: Claude can complete logins and one-time-passcode flows, but the credentials never enter the model. As the company describes it, "the credentials never enter the model or its memory" — 1Password holds the secret, injects it at the page level after biometric approval from the user, and Claude only knows that it used a login, never the login itself. Dai Nippon Printing took a different angle, extending its CATRINA distributed-ID platform with verifiable credentials so that online merchants can confirm which AI agent is authorized to buy on whose behalf and under what scope. DNP frames the core problem as confirming "'whose proxy' and 'with what authority' the AI agent is acting" before a purchase clears. Separately, the Linux Foundation announced the operational launch of the x402 Foundation, an open-governance body Coinbase created to steward x402, its standard for internet-native payments over HTTP. The protocol embeds payment capability directly into web requests, letting agents, APIs, and applications exchange stablecoins or card payments as part of ordinary HTTP traffic. The new foundation already counts roughly 40 member organizations, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, AWS, Cloudflare, Google, and Shopify, spanning finance, cloud, and blockchain infrastructure. None of these three efforts overlaps much: DNP handles an agent's authority to buy, 1Password handles its authority to access the account needed to buy, and x402 handles the transaction mechanics themselves. That division is the interesting part. Rather than one company trying to own "agent identity" end to end, the market is separating concerns — person, agent, delegated authority, credential access, and payment rail — into distinct, interoperable layers that different vendors can specialize in. It's a sign the identity problem for agentic commerce is being decomposed into pieces that can actually be shipped, rather than solved with a single monolithic standard.
